Waylaid

My Dad was not a man of lecturing, he didn't go on and on to belabour a point. For a teenage boy sometimes it meant that the lesson took time to sink in. But as much as he didn't lecture, he spoke volumes through his actions. One that I learned early and has stuck over the years is "be a man of your word." , that is be a man who can be expected to keep or follow through on his promises or intentions.
So I knew that although I was just getting some steam rolling in the cabinetry construction for Fillmore. When Michelle gently reminded me that I had promised to make her a window cabinet for beside the computer it was time to change directions and fulfil my promise.

Simple in concept, a three bay cabinet that will have drawers that will house different storage including a hanging  file folders and a computer printer scanner
With some help from Anna, and then Michelle, we made some great strides
The test fit is a little bigger than  I would like but I think it will turn out just fine.
Back in the shop, it was time to fill and sand while I continued on with drawer construction.

It's OK to cut corners

Usually I wouldn't even think of using that title when referring to my work, but I kind of have to agree this time. My desire is to have drawers that carry the theme of the rounded corners whenever possible and somewhat practical lends itself to the header.
I created a template to transfer the inner circumference of the 3 inch diameter 1/4 round .

Which I was then able to transfer to the drawer's edge.

I was able to create the profile on 3/4 of the drawers using my band saw. The 4th was too tall for the depth of the chuck on the table of the band saw. I haven't figured out how I will cut the remaining corner but I suspect there will be a table saw, belt and random orbital sander involved.

Time to move

Winter is a funny time of year. It is so beautiful. There is nothing more nourishing to my soul than to step outside into a -20C temp with a clear blue bird sky. One deep breath and you feel alive! Yet if you're not careful the short days and long dark nights can lull you into a slumber. You leave for work in the dark, get home from work in the dark, and you sort of loose your creative mojo. So before I fall into more of a uninspired creative funk than I already have...it's time to move.
With so much to do it's hard to decide where to begin! After an embarrassing amount of time I decided it is time to start to prepare for the roof rack installation
Its been 2 years since I had this fabricated. It's been patiently waiting for my attention. The first order of business was to unpack and assess.
Unfortunately, after so much time between panning and install. I had forgotten what I need to continue on. This will have to be put to the side while I wait for some parts.

In the meantime I have lots of projects to do. Next is to plan out the cook top and associated cabinet. And as we all know a good planning session requires lots of good coffee, some snacks...
and the greatest minds on your team whom happen to be awake this early in the morning.

As you can see last year before Grey Owl I temporarily installed the passenger side galley counter so we had a coffee station.

But now it is time to deconstruct and re-fabricate
The pieces were all stripped apart and we started the design process over again....same but different

With a few modifications. We need places for pots and pans, plates and cups, and all the accoutrements that you would expect for a weekend get away. Once the basic structure was made,

...it was time to plan the drawers. Which on one hand is a simple box. On the other...I want some flare to it so it cranks up the complexity dial a little.

The drawer basics are done, and I'm quite happy with how they turned out. Now to add the flare and hopefully I don't have to scrap what I have and start anew.

Oh No! Not again!!

You may remember this time last year I found a  wee problem I had been checking things out and found a significant break in my flywheel hous...
